My coaching style and model draws upon the Co-active and Gestalt schools of executive and life coaching. 

 

I like to keep an element of fluidity to my coaching sessions, as I find that enabling my client to influence the speed and direction of conversation is a great way to build rapport and trust.

I also strongly believe in the Gestalt approach of the power of ‘being more you’, rather than a focus on imitating and comparing yourself to others. My model can be described as a journey of exploration, to finding and being the best version of you. 

 

I partner with my clients to work within 6 phases of exploration. These are not linear, and it is sometimes beneficial to revisit previous phases and re-contract as and when a client makes a new insight or experiences new circumstances.

 

I like to contract deeply with my clients to; build trust, understand their expectations of coaching, their desired outcomes, discuss how we will work together and the enabling behaviours which help to build a powerful coaching experience.

 

Seeking and gaining permission from my clients to move into a zone of uncomfortable discussion requires trust and empathy. Often these conversations can be the first time a client has spoken openly on the matter or even been aware of a topic being of importance to them. Therefore I do not rush or influence my client into these, instead I create a sense of space to discuss their initial presenting topic(s), focusing my attention on listening deeply, free of judgement.

 

When my client is ready to move into a more sensitive area of conversation, they often gain a sense of reconnecting with themselves; who they truly are and what is actually most important to them. I then work with my clients to explore what in their; work, personal life and relationships may be in misalignment with this.

 

Experimenting with different perspectives and options helps my clients to gain new insights, often uncovering new choices available to them. I liken this phase of the coaching lifecycle to using a prism, to view a single situation or topic and the many different options and perspectives available within it.

 

Effective coaching relationships depend upon positive outcomes on the part of the client. These can come in a number of forms such as; behavioural and performance improvements, achievement or progress against a set objective and greater insight into a specific topic. I work closely with my clients to determine what these look like for them and maintain a strong focus on these throughout our coaching relationship, to maximise the benefits for my clients and help them to realise the best version of themselves.
